Alvaro Off To Brazil
Congratulations to Alvaro Gonzalez who is off to Brazil to represent Australia in the Under 16's Viking's Futsal Team. Alvaro will be away from the 7th of May to the 25th of May and although we will miss his on-field talents during that time we wish him all the best.
Details of his trip
The tour to Brazil is divided into five areas.
First two days and nights at the GRANJA COMARY, Brazil Soccer Federations training camp in the mountains above Rio de Janerio. Here you will experience the preparation the World Champions of Soccer receive.
We are the only foreign team ever allowed to use and stay at the facility. Second, the highest quality coaching in Brazil at the famous SMC Futsal School of Excellence in Belo Horizonte (sanctioned by CBF, Brazil Soccer). The school coaches Mauricio, Farinha, Pablo and Joelcio will again run the sessions and included will be games against COLEGIO SANTO ANTONIO, COLEGIO MAGNUM, CLUBE AMERICA and National League Premiers MINAS TENIS CLUBE. Third, three nights at the ancient city of Diamantina, north of Belo Horizonte, where we will play in a weekend intercity tournament. Fourth, as guests of ATLETICO SOCCER CLUB, a National League professional team, you will get to watch the team train then meet the players for photos and autographs.
We will also attend a National League game to soak up the Brazilian atmosphere complete with drums, whistles and fans galore! Fifth, two nights in Rio, staying at the HOTEL TROCADERO on COPOCABANA BEACH. Summer Cup - Social - Sat 6th March
NTE White (Dorf's team) v DOSA - Olinda Grove 1 1.00pm
(NTE 4 v DOSA 0 - Ketchell, Shackcloth, Nidorfer, Holliday)
NTE Red v Nelson Eastern Suburbs - Olinda Grove 2 - 4.00pm
(NTE 3 v Nelson 2 - Pasalic, Blizzard, Cox)
After winning their first two games Dorf's team should qualify for the semi-finals if they already haven't. They have been playing pretty well so it will be worth going along and watching.
For any early birds the real Div3 team are playing at 10.00am and then backing up at 4.00pm.This will be interesting given that most of them struggle through one game let alone two. Me thinks we need to recruit some extra players for this weekend.
The Club will be putting on a BBQ at the Polish Club, so it will be good to see a few of you back there after the games.

Zlatko Belanic
Whilst in Adelaide on business last month, I finally caught up with Eagle old boy Zlatko Belanic. Zlatko played in goal for Eagles in the early nineties and was not only a fantastic goalkeeper but a great guy as well. Since returning to Adelaide in 1997, Zlatko has been very busy developing his coaching career including running his own Goalkeeping School at one stage and also writing for the Australian Soccer Times Magazine. He has also held coaching positions with Adelaide clubs, Metro Stars (GK Coach - Juniors and Seniors) , Metro United (Head Coach) and Croydon Kings (Senior Assistant and GK Coach).
A highlight for Zlatko in his time in Adelaide was looking after a Hajduk Split side (working as liaison officer)that won an U20 International Challenge tournament in 2003. Along the way Hajduk defeated the AIS, Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool.
From 2002-2005 Zlatko was a Senior Assistant and Goalkeeper Coach for the South Australian Institute of Sport (SASI) Women's team. Here he worked with current and ex Matilda players Leanne Trimboli, Colette McCallum, Lisa De Vanna and Di Alagich players, very familiar to those of us who watched the last Women's World Cup.
He has also worked with numerous youngsters that have trialled overseas and have received scholarships particularly in the US. The good news for the Club (and Tassie goalkeepers) is that I'm working with Zlatko to get him back to Hobart to do some coaching. At this stage it will be in the April school Easter break and will cater for junior and senior goalkeepers and coaches as well.
Zlatko holds an FFA/AFC 'B' Licence and has taken sessions for the benefit of numerous Directors of Coaching in Australia as well as providing programs to assist in the measurement of keeper performance. His knowledge and experience in keeping and other qualifications including "Fitness for Soccer" is of the highest quality and will be beneficial to anyone who attends his sessions, goalkeepers and coaches alike.
It was great to catch up with Zlatko and look forward to his visit in early April.
